Math Kangaroo was proposed by Peter O'Halloran, an Australian mathematician and teacher, in the 1980's. In 1991, this idea was taken up in Paris, France. Verr quickly, it spread throughout Europe. The competition began to be called "Kangaroo" because of its Australian origin. The main purpose of Math Kangaroo is to promote mathematical thinking and stimulate an interest in math, by providing students with an opporrunity to compare their abilities against the abilities of other students, from different countries around the world. Math Kangaroo is now the largest math competition for school students in the world. As of now, it has been held in 108 countries and regions.

 

In 2024, approximately 6 million students parricipated globally, with around 1.3 million students from Brazil. Traditional mathematical powerhouses such as Germany contributed approximately 800,000 parricipants, while Russia and the Czech Republic had around 400,000 parricipants each. Countries like France and Poland each had around 300,000 parricipants, while Kazakhstan, Austria, the Netherlands, and Belgium all had over 100,000 young students parricipating. Besides, the Math Kangaroo Activity has a historr of over 20 years in the United States, with rapidly increasing annual parricipation, parricularly in California, which has a signiffcant Asian population. In this state, Math Kangaroo slots are in high demand.

การแข่งขันคณิตศาสตร์คังการู (Math Kangaroo) ถูกจัดขึ้นครั้งแรกโดยปีเตอร์ โอฮัลโลแรน (Peter O'Halloran) นักคณิตศาสตร์และครูชาวออสเตรเลียในช่วงปี 1980 ต่อมาในปี 1991 ไอเดียนี้ได้ถูกนำไปใช้ที่ปารีส ประเทศฝรั่งเศส และแพร่กระจายอย่างรวดเร็วทั่วทั้งยุโรป การแข่งขันนี้ถูกเรียกว่า "คังการู" เพื่อให้สื่อถึงต้นกำเนิดจากออสเตรเลีย

 

จุดประสงค์หลักของ Math Kangaroo คือการส่งเสริมการคิดทางคณิตศาสตร์และกระตุ้นความสนใจในวิชาคณิตศาสตร์ โดยมอบโอกาสให้นักเรียนได้เปรียบเทียบความสามารถของตนกับนักเรียนจากประเทศอื่นๆ ทั่วโลก ปัจจุบัน Math Kangaroo เป็นการแข่งขันคณิตศาสตร์ที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในโลกสำหรับนักเรียน โดยจัดขึ้นใน 108 ประเทศและภูมิภาคต่างๆ

 

ในปี 2024 มีนักเรียนเข้าร่วมแข่งขันทั่วโลกประมาณ 6 ล้านคน โดยนักเรียนจากบราซิลมีจำนวนประมาณ 1.3 ล้านคน ประเทศเยอรมนี ซึ่งเป็นประเทศที่มีความแข็งแกร่งทางคณิตศาสตร์แบบดั้งเดิม มีผู้เข้าร่วมประมาณ 800,000 คน ส่วนรัสเซียและสาธารณรัฐเช็กมีผู้เข้าร่วมประมาณ 400,000 คนต่อประเทศ ในขณะที่ฝรั่งเศสและโปแลนด์มีนักเรียนเข้าร่วมประมาณ 300,000 คน และประเทศอย่างคาซัคสถาน ออสเตรีย เนเธอร์แลนด์ และเบลเยียม มีผู้เข้าร่วมเกิน 100,000 คน

About

 - ELIGIBILITY : To participate in the contest, students in kindergarten, primary, or secondary schools

- FORMAT: Paper-based exam, 90 min 

​

• Pre-Ecolier and Ecolier is 24 multiple-choice questions. 3 marks each are contained by Questions 1-8, 4 marks each by Questions 9-16, and 5 marks each by Questions 17-24, making a full score of 96.

• Benjamin, Cadet, Junior and Student is 30 multiple-choice questions. 3 marks each are contained by Questions 1-10, 4 marks each by Questions 11-20, and 5 marks each by Questions 21-30, making a full score of 120.

• If a participant leaves a question unanswered, that question will be marked '0'. There is no penalty/deduction for wrong answer.

• หากผู้เข้าร่วมปล่อยคำถามไว้โดยไม่ตอบ จะได้รับคะแนน "0" สำหรับข้อนั้นๆ และไม่มีการหักคะแนนสำหรับคำตอบที่ผิด

Award

• GOLD Award: Top 10% of participants

• ​SILVER Award: Next 10% of participants

• ​BRONZE Award: Next 10% of participants

• ​MERIT Award: Next 20% of participants

​

- Winner are separated by Grade level. (Ex. G1 is not competing with G2.)

- All other participants shall be awarded Certificate of Participation.

- Top 3 schools receive trophies: Schools are ranked according to the tally of Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards, in that order, obtained by their students.

- ผู้ชนะจะถูกแยกตามระดับชั้นเรียน (เช่น ชั้นประถมปีที่ 1 จะแข่งขันแยกจากชั้นประถมปีที่ 2)

- ผู้เข้าร่วมที่ไม่ได้รับรางวัลข้างต้นจะได้รับ เกียรติบัตรเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน (Certificate of Participation)

- โรงเรียน 3 อันดับแรกที่ได้รับรางวัล จะได้รับถ้วยรางวัล โดยการจัดอันดับโรงเรียนพิจารณาจากจำนวนรางวัลทอง เงิน และทองแดงที่นักเรียนในโรงเรียนนั้นได้รับ (เรียงตามลำดับดังกล่าว)
